Carpet Court Australia Limited is Australia’s largest retail floor covering specialist. With nearly 200 stores nationwide, each Carpet Court store is locally owned and operated.
The company takes great pride in their reputation for leading design expertise and advice, based on their extensive product knowledge and wide range of flooring and window solutions.
End-of-the-line issues
Carpet Court was running Oracle’s JD Edwards version 9.0 to manage their day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, insurance management and sales and marketing operations. They used Windows Server 2008 on six-year-old hardware that was running out of space. Their team grew from 2.5 to 30 users over that time, and the system was sluggish.
The aging applications were nearing or at end-of-life support, making them susceptible to the latest, more prevalent modes of cyber-attack. To top it off, the systems wouldn’t support new capability such as mobility, agile reporting and forms.
This situation prompted Harry Erawan, Carpet Court’s IT Manager, to review their data storage needs, increase hardware processing power and upgrade to the newest release of JD Edwards, version 9.2.
Security, systems performance and risk management were the key focus areas.
A seamless and painless upgrade process
Fusion5 already had in-depth knowledge of Carpet Court’s systems and infrastructure, so was an obvious choice to support their goal of providing a platform for future growth. Fusion5 was tasked with updating hardware and implementing the latest version of Oracle’s JD Edwards 9.2 Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
Fusion5 followed Oracle’s ‘100 Day Upgrade’ methodology. This included a thorough process of planning and documenting the project scope and executing the customisations, integrations, data migration, testing and training phases in a seamless and coordinated fashion.
Erawan knew the success of the project was assured in Fusion5’s capable hands.
“I felt comfortable with Fusion5’s ability to deliver the project. The process was seamless and painless. Communication between myself, Fusion5’s project manager and the team was highly effective, which contributed to the project running smoothly, on time and under budget.”
Providing value
The simple ability to keep up with current technology made all the difference to Carpet Court. Maintaining good systems performance at the same time as reducing security risks gives Carpet Court the reliable platform for future growth they asked for.
Fusion5 provided post-project support and staff training to help Carpet Court staff make the most of the new platform. Users found it easy to adapt to the intuitive interface, and noticed they could perform tasks much more quickly.
“I felt comfortable with Fusion5’s ability to deliver the project. The process was seamless and painless. Communication between myself, Fusion5’s project manager and the team was highly effective, which contributed to the project running smoothly, on time and under budget,” says Erawan.
